I landed at Heathrow airport in(?) London on Sept 13th. I had no idea where I was. What I did know: this was an airport, named Heathrow, in or near London. I did not know where in the airport I was. I didn’t know how the airport was laid out, or where to go next. I didn’t know where it existed in relation to London, only that it was the default airport for people going to London. I didn’t know how to get from the airport to anywhere else in England. And I certainly didn’t know how to get to the specific room buried in the bowels of a foreign city where I would be staying that night.
You’re right though, there are lots of Whispering Earrings around. An algorithmic feed vs choosing the content you want to consume is one.
Not sure if its _quite_ the same but today in my house we instituted a new rule that the kids get one episode of TV at a time and they have to start and finish it in one go. Instead of just flipping it on and autoplaying from wherever they were up to.
The idea is (apart from watching less TV) that they make more conscious decisions about what they’re consuming and do it with intention.
(Btw I think TV is great for kids in general, but we’re past the optimal level)
