Why Women Kill is Astounding
I would never have watched this show if I hadn’t been cajoled into it. That name just screams “Watch battered women be abused for a season, before they snap and murder the monsters abusing them” and I don’t need that in my eyeballs. It’s a terrible name!
Because this show is a relationship comedy-drama. It's goddamn hilarious. It’s the funniest stuff I've seen in a long time. I laughed out loud. A lot! More than any other show I've watched in ages, and I've watched Harley Quinn.
Why Women Kill follows 3 women in 3 time lines (1960s, 1980s, 2010s) that end up murdering someone. The dialog is snappy and intelligent. The characters are complex and intelligent. I felt like I became a better writer by watching this.
Despite being constant fun, there are many scenes that are so sweet you just want to die. Every now and then something comes along and just gut-punches you right in the feels. It’s a fantastic ride at every moment.
And I do mean every moment. You know how every series have some episodes that are just filler? I’ve come to accept it as a necessary evil of watching TV. Why Women Kill - NO FILLER. Every single episode has something important happen that changes what we know or the situation the characters are in, in all three timelines! It’s like the writers knew they only had one chance to absolutely wow everyone, and put every single egg in the basket and cut out all the fluff and just gave us pure, uncut story. It was so refreshing. A lesser series would have stretched this into six seasons.
The downside is that it's on Paramount Plus, so most people probably don't have the streaming service. Rent it from Amazon/YouTube, it's worth the money. Or find a plex server. Seriously, this is great.
