I just turned 36 last week, and spent- more time than I'm proud to admit- feeling bad about being old and decrepit, my life being basically over, that whole basket of sad self-narratives. But Eneasz Brodski is just very obviously not old and decrepit, and he was old enough to have a job during (what I remember as) that confusing thing where my parents freaked out about a random plane crash. (I mean, I understood it later, but.)
I definitely feel my age some days. XD It was nicer having a younger body that could recover from anything overnight. But there’s tons of life still left to live :)
I feel this way about the young people who grew up in the world where activists (like my past self) had already destigmatized a bunch of alt sexualities.
I didn't see the towers fall. I was driving from Baltimore to DC, and heard the events on the radio, which I never ever listen to, and now I don't even remember why I switched it on. The stations kept fading in and out as a drove, and some broadcasters were saying that /all/ of the airplanes in the US had "gone missing" and were now airborne bombs. When I got back and found out only 3 buildings were hit, I was just relieved.
Machine intelligence is quite a bit different from human intelligence. I think conflating the two leads to distortion. (FWIW my "Move 37" was the first time we were able to "brute-force" playing video games, and realizing afresh how much of our perception is based on the "illusion" of rules, compared to "actual" rules. Going from there to "these programs must be having fun, or feeling *something*, when doing stuff!" and "it's a fresh new alien intelligence!" or even "it's totally redefined how we think of 'rules'!" types of sentiment, is a leap there's no ground to land on as yet, as far as I can tell… but I'm open to the possibility!)

Let us hope the new world with new minds leaves us a future full of children to wonder at what we didn't have before
